A description of the symptoms of niacin deficiency
Early symptoms of niacin deficiency – which is known as pellagra – include fatigue, loss of appetitie, weakness, mild diarrhoea, anxiety, irritability, and sometimes depression. The lining of the mouth and tongue may become inflamed and sore and have a burning sensation. If the pellagra becomes advanced, symptoms may then include severe diarrhoea, skin rashes, delirium, and death if not treated.
